On Building Multi-gigabit Serial Interfaces

February 16, 2017 Chris Vanwoerkom

A recent story posted in Electronic Design provides a good summary of issues related to multi-gigabit serial interfaces. It covers key issues in laying out a differential transmission line, common causes of impairments, expected attenuations and common ways to correct signal degradation (equalization methods).

The piece also covers Green Box testing as a way to perform channel optimization. Green Box testing allows you to vary the equalization in a structured manner to determine the most effective type and/or level of equalization.

When it comes time to evaluate test solutions such as BER testers, high-speed Oscilloscopes and digital sources, Electro Rent has several digital specialists on staff to help you determine the best test tools and methods for your needs. We also offer a wide selection of digital test equipment for rent, lease or sale. Often, specialized test equipment is only needed for a limited period of time. Our rental service allows you to complete test and verification with the equipment you need for only the length of time needed.
