While the thought of airborne bovines would incite a worldwide panic, there is another type of Flying COW that’s currently in the works according to telecom giant AT&T.
These Flying COWs (Cell on Wings) are actually an in-development system of drones that deliver temporary LTE coverage to densely populated areas. While these Flying COWs aren’t quite ready for service, AT&T has big plans for them. Imagine having boosted cellular service coverage during a packed concert, or perhaps more importantly, during a natural disaster such as a hurricane or snowstorm.
Cellular service distribution and drones are shaping up to have a more robust relationship in the not-so-distant future. With the rise of the Internet of Things (IoT), more and more devices will eventually depend on having reliable access to the cell networks. Products such as the Flying COWs appear primed to assist in areas were more traditional systems aren’t feasible.
