Broadband From Power Lines? But How?!

September 27, 2016

In what could be a potential breakthrough for rural and underserved communities, AT&T recently unveiled their new broadband solution, called AirGig.

What’s interesting about this solution is that the infrastructure is already in place. AT&T plans to use existing electrical power lines as the conduit to deliver multi-gigabit wireless Internet speeds to the communities that need it the most.

The signals are not designed to travel through the lines, but rather through low-cost antennas that are placed alongside the powerlines. The result could equal tremendous savings in development costs.
